Great American Eclipse
To provide a safe viewing of the Great American Eclipse on Monday, April 8th, the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) has decided to make that day an independent learning day for students and school-based employees. (Students and staff do not report) The safety and well-being of our students remain a top priority for DCSD, and while experiencing a solar eclipse is exciting and educational, looking directly at an eclipse can damage a student’s eyes. The independent learning day would also ensure students and staff are not on the roads and highways during the time of the eclipse, which is expected to begin at 1:45 p.m. and end at 4:21 p.m., during dismissal time for DCSD schools. We encourage families who plan to experience the eclipse to be safe and protect their eyes by wearing eclipse-viewing glasses. Families can visit DCSD’s website for more safety tips.
